The Economics Ph.D. program focuses on utilizing economic theory and modeling to address real world problems that advance our understanding of human behavior and facilitates efficient public policy. The hallmark of our program is conducting applied economic research with a strong foundation in econometric analysis. Elective coursework in areas of applied microeconomics from development to immigration policy to data science and political economy will provide students with the core tools needed to create innovative research on the key questions concerning modern society.

The Economics graduate group has established the following program learning outcomes. Upon successful completion of this program, students will:

  1. Have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in economic theory and econometrics.
  2. Be able to communicate economic information verbally in a clear and concise manner to expert and non-expert audiences.
  3. Have demonstrated the professional skills required to participate in the intellectual and organizational aspects of the economics profession.
