In addition to adhering to General Education  and School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts Requirements , the Public Health major requires at least 52 units. Courses in the major must be taken for a letter grade, and specifically may not be taken on a pass/no pass basis unless the course is only offered on a pass/no pass basis.

Statistics Requirement [4-5 units]


Complete one statistics course from the following. Note that PH 010 is the preferred course to meet this requirement, and students are strongly encouraged to consider selecting this option.

Transfer Students


Transfer students who wish to major in Public Health should complete the Full Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) for University of California at their community college. Transfer students may not be admitted to the Public Health major without specific major preparation. Please contact the Office of Admissions for current information.

Transfer Selection Criteria


To be admitted to the Public Health major transfer students must meet the following requirements:

  • IGETC Certification
  • Minimum Overall GPA of 3.0

Applicants will, at the time of admission have completed at minimum each of the following courses (or their equivalent) with a “C‐” or better: 

**Note: After matriculating to UC Merced, transfer students may not be able to complete this major within four semesters. The coursework required may take a minimum of five semesters.
