MSE 151: Materials Processing & Performance I: Materials Thermodynamics and Kinetics Units: 4
Introduces thermodynamic laws and principles with an emphasis on solid solutions. Covers mass transport, reactions, and phase transformations in engineering materials systems of one, two, and three components. Control of micro- and nano-structure. Includes case studies relevant to the processing of and property retention in metals, polymers, ceramics, semi-conductors, and nanomaterials. Ellingham, phase, transformation, and Pourbaix diagrams.
