BIO 040L: Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience: Genetic Discovery on the Fly Units: 3
In this inquiry-based research course, students work individually and in teams to discover genes that control various metabolic processes in the “fruit fly”, Drosophila melanogaster. Students will perform all steps of the scientific method, including formulating hypotheses, using appropriate methodology to test their hypotheses, and performing data analysis. Students will learn scientific communication skills through examination of research publications and peer editing of written reports that describe each step of their project.
