The Cognitive Science Honors Program provides students with the opportunity to work hands-on with a faculty member to conduct their own independent research project. Cognitive Science majors may petition to join the Cognitive Science Honors Program, which has additional requirements beyond the standard Cognitive Science major. Undergraduate majors who are accepted and successfully complete the Honors Program will receive a notation to that effect on their diploma and on their undergraduate transcript thereafter. Students apply to join the Honors Program in the Spring of their third year. To be eligible for the Honors Program, a Cognitive Science major must achieve an overall GPA of 3.3 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the major, have completed COGS 001 and COGS 105 with a passing grade, and have completed or be currently enrolled in COGS 191. To enter the Honors Program, students must identify a Faculty Thesis Advisor who agrees to supervise their thesis research. To receive the Honors distinction, students must complete COGS 191 with a minimum grade of A-, complete two semesters of research supervised by their Faculty Thesis Advisor while enrolled in either COGS 195 or COGS 199, and submit an acceptable thesis under the guidance of the Faculty Thesis Advisor.
