Lower Division Major Requirements (12-13 Units)
Introduction to Science, Technology, and Ethics [4 units]
Complete the following course: Introductory Ethics Requirement [4 units]
Complete one of the following courses: Statistics Requirement [4-5 units]
Complete one of the following courses: Upper Division Major Requirements [44–47 units]
Writing in the Discipline Requirement [4 units]
Complete one of the following courses: Value Theory Requirement [8 units]
Complete two of the following courses: Philosophy of Science and Technology Requirement [8 units]
Complete two of the following courses: Elective Requirement [8 units]
Complete two of the following courses. Other courses offered in SSHA or by the MIST program with written approval from the Program Director - Any course satisfying the “Value Theory” or “Philosophy of Science and Technology” requirement, not already counted.
STEM Requirement [12-15 units]
At least 12 upper-division units across at least 3 courses offered by the same STEM program in SSHA, SoE, or SNS. (For the purposes of this requirement, DSC, MATH, and PHYS are considered the same program.) Approved courses are listed below, and students may petition the STE Program Director for approval of other courses not listed. NOTE: Different courses have different prerequisite courses. Capstone Requirement [4 units]
A Spring term Culminating Experience course that requires students to complete an independent research project combining their ethical and scientific knowledge. Transfer Students
Transfer students who wish to major in Science, Technology, and Ethics should complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) at their community college. Transfer students may not be admitted to the Science, Technology and Ethics major without specific major preparation.
