Global Arts Studies, B.A.

In addition to adhering to General Education  and School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts Requirements  , the Global Arts Studies major requires at least 52 units (some of which simultaneously meet general education requirements). Courses in the major must be taken for a letter grade, and specifically may not be taken on a pass/no pass basis unless the course is only offered on a pass/no pass basis.

Requirements for the Global Arts Studies Major


Lower Division Requirements [12 Units]


Complete the following three courses:

Upper Division Requirements [16 Units]


Complete the following four courses. Note: GASP 192 must be taken for 4 units.

Lecture/Seminar Electives [12 Units]


Complete one lower division course from the following course ranges:

  • GASP 006-007
  • GASP 050-089

Complete one upper division course from the following course ranges:

  • GASP 100-108
  • GASP 150-189

Complete one additional upper division course from the following course range:

  • GASP 150-189

Studio/Ensemble Electives [12 units]


Complete four units of music or dance studio/ensemble chosen from the following course ranges:

  • GASP 025-039
  • GASP 125-139

Complete four units of visual arts studio chosen from the following course ranges:

  • GASP 010-029
  • GASP 110-129

Complete four additional units of studio/ensemble chosen from the following course ranges:

  • GASP 010-049
  • GASP 110-149

Transfer Students


Transfer students who wish to major in Global Arts Studies should complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) at their community college. Below are the current Transfer Selection Criteria for the GASP Major.

Transfer Selection Criteria


To be admitted to the Global Arts Studies major transfer students must meet the following requirements:

Applicants will, at the time of admission have completed at minimum the following course (or its  equivalent) with a “C-” or better:

  • At least two UC-Transferable arts courses (e.g. film, music, theater, visual art)
