BIOE 115: Biomechanics

Units: 4

Introduces fundamental engineering principles, tools and implementations of techniques in biomechanics (mechanics applied to biology and bioengineering). Provides the framework to grasp the structure-function-property relationships in musculoskeletal tissues. Topics include the statics, dynamics and solid mechanics of hard and soft tissue, architectural and mechanical properties of musculoskeletal mammalian tissue, force and torque balances during normal and pathological tissue development. Places emphasis in developing quantitative and problem-solving skills and in the design of tissue biomechanics.
