DSC 104: Ethics in Data Science Units: 4
Students will learn how data-driven algorithms and artificial intelligence-powered devices now shape innumerable aspects of our lives. However, such systems often encode biases against underrepresented groups and individuals which serve to encode societal inequities as structural ones. The goal of this course is to educate students in how data and data-driven algorithms influence our world and to empower students to not only recognize bias and design algorithms to minimize such effects but to serve as advocates for themselves and others.
