ANTH 033: Peoples, Plagues, and Diseases of the Past Units: 4
Explores the manner in which disease and malnourishment leave their marks on the human skeleton and material culture left behind by people of the past. Examines how skeletal data and their archaeological contexts help anthropologists understand how diseases emerged and evolved, track the movement of people and diseases from place to place, and reconstruct life histories and social conditions in the past. Utilizes structural violence theory, the bioarchaeology of care, and the emerging archaeology of medicine and healthcare to understand the history of human health and disease and the processes of human social adaptations to them.
