Explores questions about everyday politics with a focus on Latin American countries. Politics happen every day and everywhere. Politics filters into the daily lives of people through voting, local organizations, or bureaucracies. It can also shape beliefs and attitudes through protesting, accessing welfare, experiencing corruption or violence. Why do individuals choose to participate in politics and what can we learn about the times they choose not to? What leads citizens to protest and rebel against the state? Is it always in citizens’ best interest to comply with the rules of the state? What happens when the rule of law is weak and how does this affect ordinary life?
