ECON 271: Economics and Data Science Units: 4
Focuses on two aspects. First, address the differences and complementarities between machine learning and causality estimation techniques. The benefits of classification trees or random forests will be compared to the ones of causal estimations like instrumental variable regressions. Second, text mining techniques like neural networks will be introduced in the context of real open-access datasets. The social and ethical implications of predictive analytics methods will be discussed.
